Beetlejuice 2 is coming in 2024
Here's everything we know about the long-awaited sequel from the movie's cast to release date
The studio has carved out a Sept. 6, 2024, date for Beetlejuice 2, the long-gestating sequel to Tim Burton's 1988 feature that starred Michael Keaton as the titular mischievous ghost.
The new film will see Keaton reprise his role as Beetlejuice, with Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton also returning as Lydia Deetz and Adam Maitland, respectively. Jenna Ortega (Wednesday) and Catherine O'Hara (Schitt's Creek) have also joined the cast, though their roles have not yet been disclosed.
Burton will not return to direct the sequel, with Kubo and the Two Strings helmer Travis Knight taking over directing duties. Burton will, however, serve as a producer on the film, alongside Brad Pitt.
The plot of Beetlejuice 2 is still under wraps, but it is expected to pick up many years after the events of the first film. Lydia is now an adult and has moved on with her life, but she soon finds herself drawn back to the world of the supernatural when Beetlejuice reappears.
Beetlejuice 2 is scheduled to be released in theaters on Sept. 6, 2024.
